Bienvenidos to Espana (Spain)! I wanted to give you a play-by-play view of our 2 1/2 hour turned 4 1/2 hour drive to Spain. You will see our touring vehicle, which is a Renault Espace (remember Renault in the US? Well, maybe not.) It is provides us with the espace, I mean space, we need for ourselves and our luggage. You see the inside view? That's mine. Isn't it great?!On our drive, we encountered:
- Beauty
- Sunshine
- Cloudy Skies
- Rain
- Hail
- Traffic
- &
- Beauty once again!
Paul is an excellent driver. He brought us to the Altamira Hotel in Santillana del Mar. It is a quaint village built in the 17th century. You will see pictures later on. I wanted you first to see the room I stayed in. The reason the tour stops here for now is. . . stay tuned until tomorrow for the next episode of "The Road to Spain". It is 1 AM and I must go to bed.

I've heard the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain. Is this true? :)

Actually, I do remember once last July when you slept until lunchtime. I recall the cranky response after I repeatedly knocked on your door. Hmmmmmmmmmm...but if you had had this view, I can see there is much to miss by sleeping the day away.........glad to see you are well though, and happy for square footage. :) Sanjaya remains on IDOL. You were asked about at Passover this last Monday evening; I saved a couple of potato latkes for you. They might not be so good when you get back, but I thought of you. I expect that your Easter will be a glorious day for you. Enjoy your moments. Jode'

Santillana del Mar?!!! It's such an out of the way place for Americans, I didn't think anyone I knew would make it there! I was there back in 2002, just after our trip to Costa Rica! We cycled in from Castro Urdiales on the coast. I was fortunate enough to stay in the really nice Hotel right in the middle of town, right on the main (pedestrian)street. It was a great little town, and there was a restaurant that served up the best grilled food. It was near the church, by the well. While in the area, check out the caves at Altamira, and don't forget to try the ciderma! If you feel adventerous, go for the blood sausage! When in Rome (or Spain)...
If you're heading south, the climate is much drier as soon as you cross over the mountains.
